Kyle Simms

Photographer | Filmmaker | Writer

A self-taught photographer and filmmaker with over 5 years of experience shooting and editing high-quality videos and images for businesses and film productions in the UK. At the University of Derby, I studied Creative Writing with Film & Television studies, with aspirations of being a screenwriter or a filmmaker.

After graduating, I worked as a videographer for a small Derby-based business specialising in business mentorship. I produced over 40 full-length and short-form videos.

I am currently based near Birmingham freelancing as a photographer. I have photographed public and private events, including award ceremonies, performances and outdoor play spaces.

I am part of the Sutton Coldfield Movie Makers, where I have been a camera operator, assistant director and editor for various film projects. In 2022, I wrote, directed and shot a dark-comedy thriller called ‘The Vanishing Killer‘. I have also worked behind the scenes on a feature film and a documentary.

Alongside filmmaking, I am a screenwriter focused on emotionally grounded, character-led stories that blend psychological depth, primarily within speculative genres. My writing often explores memory, identity, institutional mistrust and survival, with emphasis on morally complex characters.

In 2025/26, I will co-executive produce and shoot a television pilot and a short film. I also plan to shoot my own horror short film called ‘Wait It Out’ and a drama short film called ‘Gary’.
